About the role

  • Manage the finance and accounting function and drive process improvements and enhancements

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), you will have responsibility for the planning, operations and administration of all matters related to Queen’s financial management. You will oversee the provision of payroll services and manage a staff member to deliver payroll and finance support.

You will work closely with all departments to provide systems and support for managers with budgeting and monitoring financial performance of their programs and provide high quality reports and support for Council in their governance role. Specific requirements include:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Accounting and CPA or CA qualifications
  • A thorough knowledge of accounting and auditing theory, practices and procedures, financial analysis and management practices, complex budget development and management, corporate governance requirements, and ideally a sound understanding of the financial requirements for the not-for-profit/education sectors
  • Effective problem solving skills and demonstrated experience in initiating and implementing process/system improvements and the ability to manage varied, high priority tasks within limited time frames
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and high level interpersonal, consultancy and presentation skills with the ability to prepare quality reports, briefs and correspondence and to interpret, explain, report on and provide advice on a variety of accounting and financial management issues

In addition to significant relevant experience at a senior level in a similar role, you will possess a high degree of professionalism, initiative, decisiveness and outstanding attention to detail.

You are an enthusiastic and energetic person with a strong service orientation who is committed to working collaboratively and respectfully with staff, students and key stakeholders to achieve organisational outcomes.
