About the organisation

Organisation Name : Australian Breastfeeding Association
The Australian Breastfeeding Association (ABA) is one of the largest volunteer organisations in the country and as a Registered Training Organisation, with over 1000 trained volunteers, offers services to the public such as its 24 hour Breastfeeding Help Line, local support groups and breastfeeding education classes. With a mission to be Australia’s leading authority on breastfeeding that supports, educates and advocates for a breastfeeding inclusive society, the ABA Board of Directors invites applications from experienced professionals to take up the role of Chief Executive Officer to assist in ensuring the ABA achieves their mission.

About the role

This critical role will take responsibility for the overall development and management of the operation of the Association and for supporting and promoting strategic development and growth. Specifically you will:-
• Build and maintain strong partnerships with members, funders, external partners and other stakeholders
• Advocate with government and other decision-makers
• Provide advice to the Association’s Board on the current and future operation of the Association
• Initiate, develop and implement sound business and financial practices to mitigate risks for the Association
• Provide effective leadership and management of all staff, volunteers and projects
• Deliver services and other activities that benefit breastfeeding women
The successful candidate will be a naturally engaging and highly collaborative leader and influencer of people and change, with a demonstrated ability to think and deliver strategically.
As the CEO is the public face of the ABA and will drive the advocacy efforts of the association, previous success in a position that required extensive advocacy, media and public relations and high-level negotiations with government and other key stakeholders is essential.
Senior management experience including strategic, financial and business planning, in the not-for-profit or health sectors is a key requirement. Experience in a membership based organisation or complex community setting with knowledge and understanding of the important contribution of highly engaged and passionate volunteers will be a distinct advantage.
You are passionate about the organisation, believe strongly in their mission and have a true sense that their core values match your own. Tertiary qualifications in Business, Management, Social Science, Community, Health or a related discipline will be highly regarded.
