About the role
PROGRAM OBJECTIVE
The Strong Minds program within our Community Initiatives Team is funded by the Department of Social Services (DSS) under the Family Mental Health Support Service (FMHSS) program. It services three locations in Western and South Western Sydney; Fairfield East, Carramar and Auburn. This program offers early intervention supports to vulnerable families of children who are at risk of or affected by mental illness to reach their potential through practical assistance, non-clinical therapeutic support and education and information services.
MAIN DUTIES
- Provide early intervention support for families of young people who suffer or are at risk of suffering from mental illnesses
- Educate children, youth and their families on de-stigmatising mental health problems, identify early signs of mental health issues and build resilience for managing mental health issues through creatively and culturally appropriate mediums
- Provide Community Outreach and Engagement Services and develop partnerships with stakeholders to reach difficult to access families
- Ensure referral and delivery of support processes utilizing best practice framework, effective assessments and collaboration with other agencies
- Provision of short and long term assistance to families through counselling, support and case coordination
- Contribute to the development, continuous improvement and evaluation of family support strategies with young people by keeping up to date on research and best practice and participating in various supervision
ESSENTIAL
- Tertiary level qualifications in the areas of Social Work, Psychology or equivalent
- Experience working with children and/or young people with mental illness and demonstrated knowledge of mental health issues
- Practical experience in providing therapeutic interventions, practical assistance and case management, to children and young people with mental health issues
- Experience in delivery of services to culturally and linguistically diverse communities
- Understanding of safe work practices
- Promotional and networking skills to community and service provision stakeholders
- A commitment to social justice
- Current Australian Driver’s License
