About the role
- An exciting opportunity for an experienced Counsellor / Caseworker to work with our Royal Commission Community Based Support Service
- Full time fixed term role until June 2018
- Based in Parramatta and Harris Park, NSW
RANSW is undergoing an exciting growth stage. We are currently looking for a suitably qualified and experienced Counsellor/Caseworker to provide therapeutic case management and counselling to people who have been impacted by the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses into Child Sexual Abuse primarily living in NSW. This is a fixed term full time position working 5 days per week until 30 June 2018.
The RANSW Royal Commission Community Based Support service assists people who have been affected by the Royal Commission into Institutional responses to child sexual abuse. This includes people who have told their story, are waiting to tell their story or want to provide a written submission to the Commission. It also includes people who are impacted by the events associated with the Royal Commission. Support is offered to family members, partners or anyone else who has been affected by the Royal Commission.
Some of the responsibilities of the successful applicant will include:
- Provide quality therapeutic case management and counselling to people impacted by Royal Commission into Institutional Responses into Child Sexual Abuse;
- Provide trauma informed support, information and referral to facilitate client well-being;
- Apply person centered and strengths based approaches to working with clients to develop goals and work towards outcomes;
- Provide quality clinical work;
- Work as part of a team;
- Provide quality customer service to clients and internal customers.
About the successful candidate
- Formal tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology or other relevant disciplines;
- Post graduate experience and a highly developed therapeutic skill base for assessment, engagement, and working with people who have experienced childhood loss, abuse or trauma, in particular sexual abuse;
- Ability to provide quality casework to develop individual tailored case plans and coordinate a mix of services to suit client needs, including assisting clients to access records from government and non-government sources, including out of home care and adoption records;
- Understanding of the history of institutional and out of home care in Australia and of the issues/ barriers faced by Forgotten Australians and Former Child Migrants and the long term impact of out-of-home care on childhood development;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – including verbal and written abilities;
- Demonstrated administrative skills and computer literacy; Experience in community engagement and outreach activities;
- Experience in working with Aboriginal people to enact culturally informed practice and ability to ensure cultural safety.
