Organisation Name : The Centre for Excellence in Child and Family Welfare
The Centre for Excellence in Child and Family Welfare (the Centre) is the peak body for over 120 child and family services in Victoria. The Centre provides public policy and program advice, delivers sector training, facilitates and publishes research, advocates for positive reform and works with our member agencies to make sure children and families have access to the services and support they need. As a Registered Training Organisation, we offer a wide range of training and resources to support best practice in the community services and allied sectors. The Centre also provides consultancy services for the child and family services sector, which include developing frameworks, writing evidence-based practice manuals, developing tools and resources, designing and delivering targeted training, working closely with community service organisations, local government and state government departments to build workforce capability. We also run regular forums across a range of policy and practice areas to capture the views of child and family services organisations and their clients. We manage projects designed to improve practice in the sector. We produce a monthly Research Review that annotates the latest research in child and family services and allied fields, and hold an annual symposium with the broad theme of Translating research into action.

About the role

Key Accountabilities

  • Assist with the coordination and implementation of all aspects of the CEO’s workload
  • Provide support across a broad range of policy areas
  • Prepare submissions to State and Commonwealth policy and legislative initiatives
  • Devise and prepare presentations and speeches
  • Preparation of correspondence for the CEO, and ensuring follow-up
  • Undertake written and design work including reports, articles, information sheets and other relevant publications as needed
  • Attend meetings where applicable
  • Summarise and report outcomes from meetings, workshops etc.  

General

  • Identify and develop relationships with key stakeholders across the member organisations, government, the child, youth and family sector, other industry bodies and the broader community
  • Work collaboratively with other staff within the Centre
  • Exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality in dealing with sensitive and high level issues
  • Undertake other duties as may be required by the CEO
  • Carry out all duties in a manner consistent with the Strategic Plan and policies of the Centre.

Key Selection Criteria

The successful applicant will have:

Essential experience

  • Experience in a small, busy office environment
  • Excellent knowledge of information technology and available programs(essential)
  • Experience in supporting multiple functions and people 

Desirable experience 

  • Knowledge and understanding of the community-based child, youth and family services sector (desirable). 

Skills 

  • Advanced written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong stakeholder management skills including high level interpersonal and relationship building skills and the ability to work with diverse groups of people effectively and professionally
  • Excellent organisational, time management skills, task prioritisation, attention to detail and the ability to be self-directed
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage a demanding work load with many competing priorities
  • Good conceptual thinker, with excellent analytical skills, the ability to research and investigate issues and synthesise complex stakeholder feedback and data into clear, high quality written reports and briefs and presentations
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • A mature and professional approach to work
  • Demonstrated ability to work productively as part of a small team
  • High level of skill in the Microsoft Office suite including Word, PowerPoint and Excel in a Windows environment; web-related skills an advantage.
  • Familiarity with social media communication
