The Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation is a statutory authority, established in 2011. Its mission is to improve the health and wellbeing of Victorians by working with communities and government to deliver effective, evidence-based initiatives to prevent gambling harm and provide support for those seeking help. The Foundation uses a public health approach to focus on prevention, early intervention and support for those who may experience gambling harm.  Harm from gambling can happen much earlier than people realise and affect the health, wellbeing and financial security of even those who gamble infrequently. By partnering with others, the Foundation is working to raise awareness of gambling harm and provide access to a range of effective treatment and support. The Foundation is committed to a Victoria free from gambling related harm.  

About the role

About the role

The Senior Research Officer position sits within the Research and Evaluation branch of the Foundation. The functions of the Research and Evaluation branch include:

  • Management of a program of strategic research (including an annual round of grants for gambling research, intelligence gathering projects, and undertaking some internal research).
  • Secondary analyses of datasets and provision of analytic services for Foundation program areas.
  • Evaluation of Foundation programs.
  • Mobilising knowledge and building research capacity.

Reporting to the Branch Head, Research and Evaluation, this strategic role will provide strong leadership in developing strategic research programs for the Foundation.  In collaboration and consultation with the internal and external stakeholders, the role will trial new research partnerships and programs for the Foundation. The Senior Research Officer will provide strategic planning and guidance on the Foundation’s research program of work, including investigator led grants. Further, the Senior Research Officer will author technical and discussion papers, and work with the research team on a range of gambling related harm research projects.

About you

Key to the success of the role will be your demonstrated strategic planning skills with similar research programs, excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to influence decision making.  A sound knowledge and understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, and background working in public health is highly regarded.  STATA experience or similar statistical package is advantageous.  Qualifications in public health, social sciences, epidemiology or other related fields is highly desirable.
