About the role

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Engagement Coordinator – Advocacy & Engagement (Identified position)

Working closely with our partners, in all regions across Australia, our Indigenous Australia Program is committed to improving access to high quality and culturally appropriate eye care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians living in remote and underserviced communities.

Working as part of our Indigenous Australia Program (Australia Country Program) and Regional structure, an exciting opportunity currently exists for a passionate advocacy and engagement professional to provide a leading role in progressing IAP’s advocacy framework, including the implementation and monitoring of advocacy initiatives and campaigns. To do this, you will work as part of a team to develop, strengthen and manage strategic stakeholder relationships; provide strategic, political and policy advice to the IAP management team; and support the development of policy positions on a variety of issues. This role will offer the successful candidate a diverse range of work, plenty of coverage and a level of complexity and scope that is not easily surpassed.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and understanding of health issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • Solid experience in working in an advocacy or stakeholder engagement role
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain positive public relations with internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and implement advocacy activities, including developing submissions, building relationships and understanding government processes
  • Demonstrated ability to provide advice on policy issues, including articulation of key messages to a range of stakeholders
  • High level experience writing and presenting in various formats for internal and external audiences.
