SVA’s Strategy & Advocacy team support SVA to achieve its mission by improving SVA’s practical knowledge about reducing disadvantage. Our Policy and Advocacy work drives SVA’s systems change agenda taking SVA’s perspectives and using them to influence government policy and sector practice to become more effective and reduce disadvantage. Strategy implementation supports the delivery of SVA’s 2020 Strategy.

The position
With upcoming parental leave, SVA has a medium-term opportunity for a Policy & Research Manager. The position plays a key role in informing SVA’s policy agenda and improving the policy literacy of the SVA team. With a primary focus on developing and implementing a policy and research program to support SVA’s social policy agenda, the position works closely with the Director, Policy and Advocacy to drive the evidence and advocacy agenda for SVA, including government relations. The position plays a key role in developing SVA’s position in the broader national debate and ensures it is intrinsically linked to SVA overarching advocacy agenda. It ensures SVA’s positions are based on combined SVA experience and the best evidence available while producing high quality research, reports and publications to influence policy and identify opportunities for new social innovations.
Who you are
We are looking for a deep knowledge of Australia’s policy settings, social issues and an understanding of the levers employed by Government in economic and social policy. With previous established experience in policy and research development, you will have a proven track record delivering significant policy projects that align with organisational strategy and support effective advocacy. To be successful in this role you will have significant experience in developing policy positions either within government or on behalf of an organisation seeking to influence government policy. This position requires accountability and flexibility as it involves close interaction with multiple internal and external stakeholders. Experience managing several projects simultaneously, as well as effective relationship management and influencing skills are essential.
