About the University of Melbourne Advancement
The Advancement Office aims to facilitate the establishment and maintenance of mutually beneficial relationships between the University and its alumni, friends and benefactors. It is responsible for the management of programs relating to alumni and benefactors, and provides services to and works collaboratively with faculties and other central administration areas.

University of Melbourne Advancement (UoMA) is responsible for the coordination and delivery of Believe: the Campaign for the University of Melbourne, www.campaign.unimelb.edu.au.

The completion of the first phase goal of raising $500M for the Believe Campaign was publicly announced in March 2016, along with the intention to proceed with a second phase of the Campaign with revised goals of raising $1B and actively engaging with 100,000 alumni by the end of 2021.The Believe Campaign is the largest initiative of its kind in the Asia-Pacific region.

About the role
Reporting to the Head of Regular Giving and Direct Marketing, the Regular Giving Officer is responsible for assisting with the delivery of all regular giving programs across the team. The Regular Giving Team’s activities aim to increase philanthropic giving to the University through gaining support from individual donors (primarily alumni, staff, students and members of the wider University community). The team focuses on donations of varying size and frequency, with the aim of encouraging individuals to make modest but regular gifts which can have a substantial impact on University initiatives. In this role, success is measured in income, donor numbers and in terms of participation, acquisition and renewal rates.

The Advancement Office’s regular giving program currently solicits donations through direct mail, electronic direct mail and associated social media, a telethon program, staff giving, and an on-campus volunteer-run student giving program. These programs are undertaken on behalf of the University, in support of University faculties and divisions.

As Regular Giving Officer and a member of the Alumni and Stakeholder Relations Team, under the guidance of the Head of Regular Giving and Direct Marketing, you will contribute to the delivery of these valuable regular giving activities through the provision of administrative assistance to the team and their projects, and through individual responsibility for the planning and delivery of some student and staff-based programs. This includes opportunities to recruit, train and oversee student volunteers, and to coordinate student and staff-facing events. This exciting full-time position is available on a continuing basis.

About you

  • You will have excellent organisational skills, including the ability to plan and prioritise work to meet deadlines, work calmly under pressure and perform in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated capacity to work independently and as a team member
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills including a high level of accuracy and attention to detail in drafting correspondence and data entry
  • Experience working on programs with a strong people component and the ability to lead small, student-based teams
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to provide high levels of customer service, exercise discretion and deal tactfully with information
  • High proficiency in a variety of computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook, and relevant experience using organisation-wide CRM databases effectively
  • Experience and ability to influence and garner support, and commitment, from internal stakeholders
  • A strong team player demonstrating flexibility, adaptability, reliability as well as enthusiasm and positivity
