About the organisation
Hope Street Youth and Family Services Ltd ("Hope Street") based in the northern and western regions of Melbourne, is one of the longest established specialist youth homelessness services in Victoria.
As a leading player, with over 30 years experience in delivering responsive services to young people in local communities, Hope Street provides both strategically targeted and holistic programs for young people including young families. These programs incorporate the following:
- Short term supported emergency accommodation
- Outreach support for 16-25 year olds
- Youth reconciliation involving counselling and support for young people and families
- Advocacy, resource and referral services
- Independent family accommodation
About the role
Hope Street is looking for a Youth Residential Services Team Leader to provide leadership and direction to the youth programs and refuge located within at the Brunswick West site. This role will lead the Boost Program, as well as the Youth Support Service Program.
As the Youth Residential Services Team Leader you will manage the day to day operational resources of the youth residential programs with the support and oversight of the Program Manager. Compliance in all operational areas including human resource management, service delivery, continual quality improvement and risk management will be achieved, with a strong focus on delivering client outcomes.
You will work closely with team members in each of the programs to deliver individual performance management to team members (plus a small pool of casuals across both sites), as well as the delivery of the program models and strategic plan via annual individual work plans, supervision and effective communication mechanisms.
Applicants must address the Key Selection Criteria:
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability to lead, supervise and motivate staff teams
- Demonstrated understanding of delivering services to young people in crisis within a case management framework and in a supported crisis accommodation setting responsive to their needs
- Demonstrated knowledge of client centred, therapeutic approaches within a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to develop, implement and monitor youth centred programs and capacity building initiatives
- Demonstrated understanding of the youth homelessness service system and allied services best placed to support and divert young people from homelessness
- Experience working with partners in provision of integrated, coordinated and seamless responses to achieve referral pathways and service outcomes.
- Demonstrated highly developed communication skills including active listening, negotiation, problem solving, decision making, advocacy and written
- Demonstrated ability to plan, implement, monitor and review all aspects of service programs
- Demonstrated ability to contribute constructively as a leader and team member for the benefit of the whole organisation.
Mandatory Qualifications:
- Tertiary qualification in Social Sciences (e.g. BA or Masters in Social Work or Youth Affairs) or equivalent.
- Competency in using Windows software and Excel applications and capacity to maintain appropriate records and files.

The appointment is subject to a satisfactory Police Record Check and Employee Working with Children Check.
