GetUp is one of Australia's largest campaigning communities, with over 1 million members. GetUp creates a thriving democracy by giving everyday Australians the chance to make extraordinary impact – online, across the airwaves, and in the streets. GetUp members want to create a country of active citizens, not passive consumers.

About the role

GetUp is hiring a Finance Officer to work on the performance team. We are looking for a brilliant and highly organised self-starter who can support the Finance Director, and our entire team of expert campaigners and technologists with all the financial matters needed to ensure GetUp remains a well oiled, campaign-winning machine.

You know that every penny of our members’ donations are crucial and will ensure that it is always spent economically, ethically and effectively.

GetUp is one of Australia’s largest campaigning communities, with over 1 million members. We’re an independent, grassroots, community advocacy organisation that seeks to build a more progressive Australia and hold politicians to account. Members take action on matters that are important to them. Whether it is campaigning on climate action, economic fairness, environmental sustainability or issues of social justice, GetUp members combine to demand better from our government, big business and media.

This isn’t a normal 9-5 finance role: it will be exceptionally fast-paced, demanding, exciting and massively rewarding.

This role encompasses a range of responsibilities, including:

  • Responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll
  • Responsible for financial and management accounting, including month end and year end reporting, and assisting with the annual audit
  • Managing correspondence with external suppliers and being the internal primary point of contact for finance-related matters
  • Working with the finance director to develop and implement policies and processes to improve GetUp’s operations (specifically around finance)
  • Working with our campaigners and staff to optimise the impact we can achieve from our donations
  • Assisting the finance director with preparing the annual budget and periodic reforecasts and analysis of actual performance against forecast
  • Preparing reports and logistics for board meetings
  • Assisting with administration and operations work of the organisation as required

You will be someone who:

  • Is passionate about seeing progressive change in Australia
  • Has a sharp eye for detail
  • Is passionate about all things finance and knows how crucial it is to the success of the organisation
  • Has a demonstrated knowledge of all aspects of the full finance function, and a working understanding of how individual transactions will ultimately be reflected in the financial statements.
  • Gets excited about technological innovations and finding new ways to increase efficiency and accuracy
  • Can work quickly both independently and in a team
  • Is great at multitasking; you can be across multiple tasks at once and never drop the ball
  • Can think ahead and pre-empt the needs of the organisation to ensure we are always able to act successfully on the issues our members care about
  • Comes up with creative solutions to tricky situations
  • Can succinctly explain financial concepts in non-financial language
  • Is nimble with a can-do attitude and a willingness to work on different areas or unconventional tasks to meet demand
  • Has relevant qualifications

GetUp will provide you with:

  • Purposeful, autonomous and challenging work in a flexible and friendly environment
  • Opportunities for professional development and networking, locally and internationally
  • Competitive remuneration commensurate with your experience

This is a permanent role commencing mid-March 2018. This is a part time role (2-3 days per week) Level 4-5 position, $64,724-77,430 per annum (pro-rata) + superannuation, depending on the skills and experience of the successful candidate. Sydney preferred but Melbourne or Brisbane possible for the right candidate.

If even a couple of the above criteria speak to you, you could be the perfect person for the job. Formal qualifications in accounting are a prerequisite for the job, but beyond that we are looking for excellence, initiative and drive.

At GetUp, we know our capacity to win is increased when our team has a diversity of backgrounds and experience. We encourage applicants from a diverse range of genders, cultures, language groups, abilities, and experiences to apply.
