About the role

About the Role 

The Clinical Supervisor will guide a team of counsellors to produce excellent quality counselling services to clients. This includes provision of high quality clinical supervision, vicarious trauma management, quality assurance and professional development for counsellors. 

The Clinical Supervisor will develop and maintain an awareness of the current levels of expertise and knowledge held by counsellors within the organisation, and will use this knowledge to ensure that counsellors receive quality support. The Clinical Supervisor will hold responsibility for ensuring the timely development, review and implementation of clients’ therapeutic plans and engaging with client consent in clinical care plans with other providers.

The Clinical Supervisor will utilise leadership qualities to facilitate team meetings among the counselling staff and will work with the Director, Counselling Services to develop and review counselling services policies and practices.

Skills and Experience 

A minimum four year Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or equivalent is required. These qualifications will be complemented by a minimum of five years counselling experience and a detailed understanding of the causes and consequences of sexual, domestic and family violence. 

The Clinical Supervisor will have experience in quality improvement, reflective practices and policy development, alongside knowledge of and experience in clinical supervision models and practice. The Clinical Supervisor will be an effective leader who will use her skills to develop to foster counselling team working relationships that focus on quality outcomes for clients and a productive work environment for counsellors. 

This experience and approach will be accompanied by practical skills in needs analysis/skills audits and statistical analysis regarding counselling service outcomes. 

Ideally, the Clinical Supervisor will have experience managing a team of professionals from social work, psychology or counselling profession. 

Essential Selection Criteria

  • Commitment to the provision of best practice evidence based counselling services.
  • Commitment to the provision of services from a feminist perspective.
  • Detailed understanding of the causes and consequences of sexual, domestic and family violence.
  • At minimum, four year Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or equivalent.
  • Minimum five years counselling experience including in trauma specialist counselling.
  • Computer Literacy
  • Demonstrated:
    • knowledge of, and experience in,
      • clinical supervision,
      • quality improvement and quality assurance practices,
      • performance appraisals, and
      • vicarious trauma management,
    • leadership skills that inspire confidence.
    • well developed conceptual and problem solving skills,
    • skills in working collaboratively with stakeholders,
    • a flexible and analytical approach problem solving, and
    • well developed time management and task prioritisation skills.

Desirable Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated ability in working cross-culturally.
  • Experience in community or Women’s Health and Women’s Services sector.
  • Skills in managing a team of professionals from a Social Work, Psychology or Counselling profession.

Salary and Benefits

The Clinical Supervisor will be supported with ongoing professional development vicarious trauma management programs. The Rape & Domestic Violence Services Australia health and well-being program supports all employees through education, risk management and individual support. 

Hours

The position is full time totalling 76 hours per fortnight. Clinical Supervisors work day and afternoon shift Monday to Friday i.e. 8am to 4pm and 12 noon to 8pm. A set roster is established for each Supervisor. Supervisors also accept the 24/7 ‘on call’ supervisor role one week in every four to five weeks. Allowances and disturbance fees are payable for this work.
