Melanoma Institute Australia (MIA) is a national network of researchers and clinicians headquartered in Sydney at the Poche Centre but with affiliated groups working out of a range of hospitals and universities. The Institute's efforts are channelled into three streams of activity: treatment, research and education. Internationally, MIA leads the way with its body of unique clinical trials which have cured some people with advanced melanoma.

About the role

  • Generate income to enable the largest centre in the world dedicated to melanoma to expand its lifesaving work
  • A newly created leadership role guiding a recently established team of fundraising specialists, reporting to a CEO with a history of successful fundraising
  • Based in the state of the art Poche Centre in Wollstonecraft

 

The Challenge

Australia has the second highest incidence of melanoma in the world. On average, 30 Australians will be diagnosed every day and one Australian dies from melanoma every six hours. It is the most common cause of cancer death in 20-39 year olds. Its incidence is also very high in the over 60s. Yet it is largely preventable and treatable if detected early.

The Role

Key to the role is the best practice implementation of a sophisticated mix of fundraising strategies and channels. Within the team specialists have been recruited in most fundraising disciplines and the Head of Fundraising will develop business cases for investment in donor acquisition and together with the CEO and CFO, put these to the MIA Board.

You will be responsible for introducing and maintaining excellent donor care and stewardship practices. You will also ensure the team is deploying the latest systems, policies and procedures and is well integrated with other MIA business units, clinical practices and research activities.

 

Skills Required

You’re recognised as high performing with a track record of success in developing and nurturing multi faceted relationship and data driven fundraising portfolios.  Success in leading donor acquisition programs is crucial, as is the ability to diversify into new forms of acquisition, retention and upgrade. Your people management skills must be commensurate with your technical skills.

You have the intellect and emotional intelligence to successfully engage a complex variety of stakeholders including grateful patients, clinicians, researchers and community fundraisers.
