About the role
The Position
The Marketing and Communications Manager is a key member of the Earthwatch Organisational Development Team, central to the success of achieving the organisation’s growth targets. The position creates and implements high-quality communication strategies and activities for all aspects of the organisation, ensuring a consistent and professional image for all external audiences. The Marketing and Communications Manager will contribute to building the organisation’s external profile with key stakeholders, our public audiences and all affiliated supporters.
The role will suit a self-motivated, enthusiastic individual with tertiary qualifications in a marketing and / or communications discipline and at least 3-5 years’ experience in marketing for individuals, corporate and / or the not-for-profit sector. We seek an individual who intrinsically possesses a passion for nature and the environment and a willingness to work in a small dedicated team.
This position is full time (1.0EFT) and offers a salary of $70k-$75k per annum + 9.5% Superannuation
Primary Tasks and Responsibilities
- Assist with the development of Communication (PR), Marketing and Social Media strategies to enhance brand awareness and improve engagement, motivation and activation across our organisation, both internally and broadly to our external stakeholders.
- Implement the tactical needs of the above three (3) key strategies
- Development, management and execution of PR releases, media liaison and follow up
- Organising relevant industry related promotional activities and events.
- Development of all Earthwatch digital and print communications materials including newsletters, marketing collateral, fundraising direct mail, e-News and website with a close understanding of engaging volunteers and internships within the organisations marketing and communications accountabilities.
- Responsible for achieving sales targets of Earthwatch public expeditions
- Maintaining accurate and up to date media databases, media monitoring and performing data analytics on e-News campaigns, fundraising appeals and other data segmentation requirements
About You
Essential criteria
- A tertiary degree in marketing, sales, [science] communications, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience to this position
- Demonstrated marketing and communications experience, min. 3-5 years
- Experience in delivering the full suite of the marketing mix, including social media and PR strategies
- Competence in the full range of software applications including all Microsoft office products, Adobe Creative Suite (Indesign, Illustrator and Photoshop), project spread sheeting
- Knowledge and industry experience of executing digital & online communications and an understanding of social media marketing trends
- Ability to demonstrate proven successful publications i.e. editorials, fundraising appeals, e-newsletters, online content and proposals
- Demonstrated experience in event management
- Demonstrated experience in data analytics, including donor management systems
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including an enthusiastic and engaging phone manner
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge and understanding of working with an environmental not-for-profit
- High level of interest in environmental science and the outdoors
- Experience in media management and handling of crisis situations
- Understanding of media networks (State and National) and demonstrated PR experiences
- An understanding of how to deliver Science Communications
