About the role

Role summaries

 You will work to help a wide range of adult Victorians. Your case load will cross generations, and will include people from different cultural backgrounds. You may also work with individuals with a cognitive impairment.

 

As a Clinician (AH3 $81,354 – $92,304 per annum + super) you will be:

  • providing risk assessment, clinically interview clients and determine appropriate treatment pathways
  • preparing treatment plans, treatment reports, and risk assessment reports for stakeholders, such as the Adult Parole Board
  • applying the key therapeutic frameworks outlined in your training to guide assessment and treatment recommendations
  • Actively contribute to ongoing research and training on the assessment and treatment of offenders
  • delivering mainly group-based offending behaviour programs including offence-specific and offence-related interventions
  • working across a broad range of intervention programs, you will gain a diverse and extensive understanding of the different programs delivered.

 

* We also are recruiting Provisional Psychologists (AH2 $58,207 – $79,790 per annum + super)
This includes paid APHRA certified supervision with internal and/or external supervisors); assisting you in completing your general registration (where on completion, you will be promoted to the AH3 salary band).

 

As a Senior Clinician (AH4 $93,867 – $113,572 per annum + super) in addition to the above, you will also manage:

  • a team of Clinicians – assisting with their professional development and training
  • the provision programs across prisons and/or Community Corrections Services (CCS) 
  • and adhere to and demonstration of key therapist characteristics [empathy, warmth, rewarding and directive] to facilitate the therapeutic relationship.

 

We are recruiting vacancies at our Offending Behaviour Program (OBP) and Specialised Offender Assessment & Treatment Service (SOATS) business units.

 

SOATS aims to reduce the risk of sexual and violent reoffending. The team achieves this by administering assessment, management and therapeutic intervention services to convicted sexual and violent offenders.

  • The SOATS Clinicians team are all centrally located in the inner suburb of Carlton, within the inner CBD suburbs of Melbourne.
  • The Regional Director and senior members of the team are approachable, and have fostered an engaged and motivated culture within the SOATS clinician team
  • The working environment is safe, where clients are predominately choosing to abide to their parole conditions, which includes being respectful and collaborative with staff

 

OBP uses interventions to reduce violence, inspire motivation to change, emotion management and other offence-related topics. OBP is structured within a hybrid model, covering eligible prisoners in public prisons and offenders reporting to Community Correctional Services across Melbourne and regional Victoria.

 

We have full time clinician vacancies within OBP in the following locations:

  • Hopkins Correctional Centre (Grampians, near Ararat)
  • Ballarat
  • Wangaratta
  • Melbourne inner city (444 Carlton Street, Carlton)
  • Dandenong (in addition to a part time Senior Clinician vacancy)
  • Bendigo

 

Qualifications

To be appointed as a Clinician for Corrections Victoria, you are required to be either;

  • registered as a Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Agency (provisional psychologists are welcome to apply); or
  • eligible for membership with the Australian Association of Social Work; or
  • credentialed as a mental health nurse with the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses; or
  • registered as an occupational therapist with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia.

 

About you

To succeed, you will be able to demonstrate:

  • knowledge and understanding of the Criminal Justice System
  • knowledge of reducing re-offending literature and an ability to apply theory to practice
  • the ability to apply key therapeutic frameworks such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, to working with offenders
  • understanding of and commitment to the application of best practice principles of therapeutic intervention.
