Director of Development and Communications

This is a new and challenging senior management role at the Lions Eye Institute combining the key responsibilities of fundraising and communications for the Institute including support for the LEI’s research and patient care programs.
The Lions Eye Institute (LEI) is a not-for-profit centre of excellence that combines world class scientific research into the prevention of blindness with the highest level of eye care delivery. It incorporates one of Australia’s largest ophthalmic practices, including a Day Surgery Unit and a Laser Vision Centre. The LEI also houses the Lions Eye Bank, Lions Optics, Lions Outback Vision and the Lions Save-Sight Foundation WA.
You’ll be based at the Lions Eye Institute in Nedlands, managing and growing a team that develops relationships with patients, clinicians and researchers as well as a diverse range of supporters, donors and other stakeholders.
This position will manage a team of 5+ staff and report to the Chief Operating Officer. Key responsibilities include:
• Planning and implementing an integrated fundraising and stakeholder engagement program to maximise income from donors, corporates and trusts and foundations to support the Lions Eye Institute and its research, clinical and community programs.
• Planning and managing all branding, communications, PR, and media activities for the LEI supporting the fundraising programs and maximising awareness of the LEI and its role in ophthalmic research, education, and patient care.
• Taking a leading role in managing relationships with philanthropists, scientists and government.
