Key Locations – City Village, 225 Bourke Street, Melbourne
– TAA service sites, as required
Flinders Street, Southern Cross and Seymour Railway Stations
Hours of work 30.4 hours per fortnight
Employment type 2-year contract position
Probationary Period 6 months
Salary $70,000 per annum pro-rata

Purpose
The purpose of the Marketing and Communications Advisor role is to develop and implement a marketing and communications strategy that supports the achievement of the Travellers Aid Australia (TAA) Strategic Plan 2018-2028.
The role works closely with the Business Development Manager and the CEO. The incumbent will also collaborate with TAA staff and volunteers as well as external funders, partner organisations and other key stakeholders.
The position is offered initially as a 2 day a week position but has the potential to increase to 3 days a week after the probationary period.
The position demands high-level marketing expertise and sophisticated communication skills.

The Role
Lead and develop the Marketing and Communications Framework
• Be familiar with the goals and objectives of the TAA Strategic plan 2018-2028.
• Work with the Business Development Manager and senior management to develop and implement an overall marketing and communications framework for TAA.
• Assess and critically evaluate current marketing and communications activities and recommend changes, as appropriate.
• Identify key focus audiences for the TAA brand, based on the 2018-2028 Strategic Plan, and develop appropriate marketing and communications channels to reach those audiences.
Communication
• Develop and enhance the internal and external communication methodologies of TAA to ensure they are effective and relevant to their focus audiences. Utilise digital communications where they can reach and inform the target audience.
• Implement the communications strategy of TAA to ensure consistency of messaging, timely delivery of communications and the utilisation of effective communications channels for target audiences.
• Plan, produce and oversee the distribution of TAA’s quarterly newsletter from a primarily print based communication to a largely digital communication, as is appropriate for growing sectors of the target audience.
• Develop communications tools and training for TAA staff and volunteers to achieve maximum engagement and impact of messaging.
• Oversee the ongoing implementation of the TAA Social Media Strategy 2017 to ensure its effectiveness and fit with the overall marketing strategy.
• Oversee the management of the TAA website and ensure that the content is topical, informative, relevant and engaging.
• Devise strategies to accurately measure staff, volunteer, service user and partner engagement with the TAA marketing and communications strategy and recommend amendments as appropriate.

Events and Promotions
• Seek and develop opportunities to promote TAA through in-house and external events and promotions.
• Develop event and promotional materials that ensure consistency in branding of TAA service offerings.
• Liaise with external design and media consultants, as required.

Skills & Experience
• A tertiary qualification in marketing and communications
• 3 years’ experience working in a similar role, preferably in the Not-for-Profit sector.
• Experience in developing marketing, communications and social media strategies.
• High level skills in MSO365, Salesforce CRM as well as a range of contemporary social media platforms.
• Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise and manage time to meet tight deadlines.
• Strong listening, written and verbal communication skills.
• Great attention to detail and a creative ideas person.
• Self-motivated and goal oriented.

Key Result Areas
• The development and implementation of an effective Marketing and Communications strategy in line with the TAA Strategic plan 2018-2028.
• An increased sophistication in the delivery of TAA’s communications and the successful transition to more cost effective digital communications options.
• Increased engagement with the TAA brand and services amongst our current and future service users, partner organisations and other stakeholders.
• Recognisable innovation in devising marketing events and promotional materials that are consistent with the TAA brand and that appeal to a broad cross section of service users, stakeholders as well as new market sectors.
• Successfully developing marketing materials, targeted communications and media for new services and activities currently being developed by TAA in conjunction with corporate and government partners.
• The successful management of the Marketing and Communications budget and the reporting on outcomes of campaigns and events to TAA’s CEO on a monthly basis.
