About the organisation

Organisation Name : St Canice's Parish

St Canice’s Kitchen is an outreach of the Catholic Parish of St Canice which has served the Elizabeth Bay/Kings Cross communities for over 125 years.  The Kitchen itself, now in its thirtieth year of operation, provides a unique refuge in the area, serving 50,000 meals a year and offering comfort, dignity and community to the homeless and disadvantaged.

About the role

Through the Kitchen’s management committee, the Parish is committed to ensuring the outreach is sustainable. Central to this strategy are the dual objectives of raising awareness of the Kitchen’s activities amongst the local community and diversification of the financial support base. We receive no government funding and rely solely on individual donations as well as the support of a handful of very generous Sydney businesses.

To deliver this strategy the Parish now seeks to engage a Community Relations Officer who will take responsibility for implementation of these objectives. The position will be initially for six months for three days per week. The role may be extended beyond this period depending on the results achieved.

The ideal candidate will have a personal affinity with the ethos and values of the Catholic Church, especially in terms of service to the poor, be a self-starter, have excellent interpersonal and stakeholder/volunteer engagement skills, sound computer and social media skills, including WordPress, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Mailchimp, experience with community fundraising, and event management knowledge and experience.

The successful applicant will be given overall direction and focus by the Kitchen Committee and will be accountable to the Parish Priest through the Parish Manager regarding administrative matters relating to the role. Consideration could be given to flexible work practices and some variation regarding hours, but it is essentially a three day per week role, using the Parish Office as the base for activities.
