Who is GetUp

The GetUp movement is powered by the values and hopes of one million members, movement partners and a central team of expert strategists. Together, we do whatever it takes to make extraordinary impact.

We focus our campaigns on the areas our members care about most in the fields of Environmental Justice, Human Rights, Economic Fairness and Democratic Integrity. From making sure hundreds of thousands of people are able to vote in elections, to successfully stopping major projects threatening the Great Barrier Reef, or securing billions of dollars in new funding for mental health – we have a decade-long history of taking on powerful interests, and winning.

Who is the Rapid Response Team

GetUp’s Rapid Response Campaigns Team is all over the top rating political and corporate issues of the day. The team drives creative and sassy content and fresh campaign tactics – to get through to as many Aussies as possible, speak to their values, and engage them in our movement.

By riding the energy, outrage and empathy of the media cycle, the team gives people outlets to make a difference – whether it’s signing a massive petition on #MeToo, showing up to candlelight vigils for refugees or chipping in to snap actions to save our ABC.

The Rapid Response Campaign Director will manage a committed team of skilled campaigner-creatives to:

– Work seamlessly with other Campaigns Directors to find and hit big campaign moments wherever they are;
– Pioneer an efficient data-driven approach to testing campaigns and media moments;
– Run hard at campaigns when they’re hot and drop them when they’re not;
– Creatively combine online and offline tactics in exciting campaign arcs that get members on the streets and the airwaves, in the media, and influencing political outcomes;
– Ensure a consistent baseline of member-driven fundraising that meets ambitious targets; and
– Roll out innovative campaign fundraising asks designed to give first-time donors the opportunity to get involved.

Some things you might do in a typical day:

– Coordinate your campaigners to get out timely, strategic and engaging email or social media content that inspires our members to take action;
– Get to the bottom of a surprise government policy announcement, then jump on the phone with key movement partners to work out a rapid response plan;
– Get a press release out the door, then jump on the phone to do radio grabs and interviews;
– Lock yourself away to crank on a campaign strategy and work plan to present to the Executive team;
– Lead on a lobbying meeting with a target MP or Senator;
– Draft up a message testing program for a new campaign; or
– Review concepts for a TV ad, and work with one of your campaigners to refine the creative.

You will be someone who is:

– Passionate about growing and strengthening a movement of everyday people committed to creating change on progressive issues;
– A formidable organiser and manager who knows how to take care of their staff;
– Adept at thinking through complex politics and communicating simply and clearly;
– An exceptional communicator who thrives in an extremely fast-paced environment;
– Capable of working autonomously on a range of varied tasks and projects, and takes the initiative doing whatever it takes to get the job done;
– and can coordinate a team to success, celebrate and evaluate.

Bonus points for:

– Experience in GetUp-style online campaigning;
– Experience running crowd-funded fundraising campaigns; and
– Experience working in the media cycle.

If even a couple of these criteria speak to you, you could be the perfect person for the job. Formal education, qualifications and extensive experience matter less to us than excellence, initiative and drive.

At GetUp, we know our capacity to drive progressive change is increased when our team has a diversity of backgrounds and experience. We are always actively looking for applicants from a diverse range of genders, cultures, language groups, abilities, and experiences to apply.

We are looking to fill this position ASAP, please get your applications in as soon as possible.
