The Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency is recognised within the state of Victoria as the lead agency in the provision of Aboriginal child and family welfare services.
The Family Support Service within Northern VACCA provides a range of programs for Aboriginal families. Our Program currently offers Aboriginal families interventions across a continuum of support ranging from early intervention & prevention work to the provision of both secondary and tertiary services.

This position will play a key role in ensuring that service provision by Child FIRST is culturally responsive to Aboriginal families. The position will spend some days out-posted within the two Child FIRST Teams at Children’s Protection Society (North East ChildFIRST) and Kildonan Uniting Care (Hume Moreland ChildFIRST) and will be involved in providing consultation and assessment to the ChildFIRST team in relations to Aboriginal families that are referred.
This position will also be involved in undertaking initial assessments of families referred to ChildFIRST and VACCA through local intake. Community education and networking responsibilities will be important components of the job.
The successful applicant for this position will possess:
- A knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and values and a proven ability to effectively communicate with Aboriginal people.
- An understanding of Family Support Services and different models of intervention.
- Knowledge and understanding of Intake processes and assessment of risk.
