About the organisation

Organisation Name : PANDA - Perinatal Anxiety and Depression Australia
PANDA - Perinatal Anxiety & Depression Australia is a dynamic and progressive organisation, working to reduce the impact of perinatal anxiety and depression through information, awareness raising and services. We also play an important role in advocating for more responsive and consumer focused services across the country. Perinatal anxiety and depression affects more than 100,000 families each year in Australia, with as many as 1 in 5 expecting or new mothers and 1 in 10 fathers experiencing the illness.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of PANDA’s small, passionate Community and Training Programs team. We undertake a range of health promotion, training and community activities that aim to: raise awareness of perinatal mental illness and promote help-seeking amongst diverse communities; improve health professionals’ capacity to support expecting and new parents affected by perinatal mental health issues; and bring the voice of people with lived experience to improving health services, systems and policies.

This position has considerable responsibility for coordinating PANDA’s successful national volunteer program, Community Champions, while also providing administrative and other support as needed to PANDA’s broader health promotion, consumer and community participation and training activities.

Many Community Champions have had lived experience of perinatal anxiety, depression or postnatal psychosis or have been carers for someone who has. Recruitment, management and support of volunteers primarily occurs via online platforms and telephone; applicants will therefore need to demonstrate an understanding of how to work sensitively with volunteers with lived experience, including through online communications.
