Cancer Council Victoria (Cancer Council) is an independent charity that has been leading the fight against cancer since 1936 through prevention, research and support. Located within the Prevention Division, the Communications team is responsible for delivering Public Relations (PR), marketing and digital support to the unit. This role will be vitally important to achieving a number of the Cancer Council’s key priorities such as: advocate for obesity policy reform; and implement obesity cancer prevention communication campaigns.

About the role

• Help to set the media agenda for topics such as food labelling, sugary drinks levy and junk food marketing.
• Develop high profile media stories and respond to high volumes of national media requests in an issue-rich environment.
• Internal promotion has created an exciting opportunity to join the PRIA’s Victorian in-House PR team of the year 2017.
• Full time 12 month fixed term position – St Kilda Rd, Melbourne

About your opportunity

We are seeking a masterful media relations expert who can create compelling content for social media and other communication channels for high-profile programs such as Obestity Policy Coalition, LiveLighter and Rethink Sugary Drink. Specifically, your role is to:

• Lead the development, planning, implementation of media and communication strategies for LiveLighter, the Obesity Policy Coalition and Rethink Sugary Drink, including advocacy on topics such as food labelling, sugar levies, physical activity, junk food marketing, access to healthy food and healthy diets.
• Lead the maintenance and further development of LiveLighter’s Victorian website pages and social media in conjunction with the Digital Manager.
• Lead the publicity for a new campaign for Rethink Sugary Drink and other digital content.
• Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders and contribute to public awareness and understanding of prevention programs.

We are looking for someone with:

• Demonstrated experience in a fast-paced media advocacy and communications role.
• Strong social media skills.
• Excellent writing and communication skills.
• A proactive approach to crafting messages, developing social media content, and creating media opportunities.

What we can offer you

This 12 month full-time fixed term position provides a salary within range $68,616 to $77,148 pa plus superannuation, annual leave loading and the benefits of not-for-profit salary packaging and a meal entertainment card. We also offer a flexible and friendly work environment, social and wellbeing activities and a location close to public transport.
