About the organisation

Organisation Name : The Nangala Project

In 2011, the Jumbana Group formed the Nangala Project Ltd, now re-named the Moriarty Foundation, a DGR, PBI Australian not for profit initiative to enable Aboriginal communities and families to unlock their children’s potential.

We believe by embracing the Aboriginal worldview, our locally led programs can radically shift intergenerational disadvantage. We place the child at the centre, the family around the child, the community around the family, and the nation around the community.

The Foundation delivers two interrelated programs:
• Indi Kindi (early learning)
• John Moriarty Football (soccer)

The Moriarty Foundation is affiliated with Aboriginal-owned Balarinji, a leading Australian strategy and design practice operating nationally and internationally since 1983. The studio is best known for covering Qantas aircraft with Aboriginal art. The Founders of both Balarinji and the Moriarty Foundation are John Moriarty and Ros Moriarty. An independent Board governs the Foundation http://www.nangalaproject.org.au/about.html

We are supported by a mix of Government, philanthropic, corporate and public funding. The Moriarty Foundation delivers two interrelated projects for children:
• Indi Kindi (early learning 0-16) http://www.nangalaproject.org.au/indi_kindi.html
• John Moriarty Football (soccer 2-16) https://www.jmf.org.au

John Moriarty Football is an increasingly well-known best practice program for 2-16 year old boys and girls in remote Australia. At JMF we bring children together through sport, promoting good health and wellbeing in some of the country’s most remote and socially challenged regions. We support our talented young athletes to thrive and reach for their true potential to succeed at local, national and international levels of the game.

JMF commenced its Scholarship Program in 2015, with one student, and has since expanded it to currently five. The program is about creating opportunities for talented young elite footballers who have a dream to pursue both their education and football in Sydney. It is a radically life changing opportunity for those talented young footballers in our program who show exceptional sporting ability. Our partner schools include Westfield Sports High School, St Catherine’s, SCEGGS Darlinghurst and Waverley College.

Indi Kindi is an early learning program for 0-5 year olds that supports families to improve the global learning readiness of children entering pre-school and school in remote Aboriginal communities in NT. The program was founded in 2012 at the request of Senior Law Women who wanted better educational access for their grandchildren. The culturally rich program is delivered by local staff, supported daily by an embedded mentor to build their personal and professional capacity. Indi Footi is our starter program amongst the very young for John Moriarty Football.
