About your environment Cancer Council Victoria has been leading efforts against cancer since 1936 through world leading research, prevention, support and advocacy programs. The Prevention Division aims to reduce the risk of cancer in the Victorian population through social marketing, advocacy, professional training and providing advice based on the best available evidence. Achieving equitable outcomes for all Victorians is a priority for Cancer Council. The Screening, Early Detection and Immunisation (SEDI) Program aims to mobilise community participation in cancer screening and immunisation by; •developing, implementing and evaluating bowel screening campaigns; and •encouraging participation in evidence-based screening and HPV immunisation programs, including among Aboriginal and culturally diverse communities. We do this by working in partnership with stakeholders to deliver community-based programs, implementing innovative media and communications activities and engaging with the workforce sector to support participation in cancer screening, early detection and immunisation.

About the role

•Engage with priority communities and assist them in increasing knowledge and self-efficacy in cancer screening, early detection and immunisation
•Utilise your presentation skills and public health knowledge to enable improved health outcomes for priority community groups.
•Part time fixed term position until June 30 2019 – St Kilda Road, Melbourne

About your opportunity
We are seeking a Priority Communities Engagement Officer to join the SEDI program. Reporting to the Communities Engagement Coordinator, your role is to:
•Support the development and implementation of evidence based initiatives to increase cancer screening, early detection and immunisationin priority communities- particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
•Develop and deliver engaging and educational presentations to empower priority community groups to participate in cancer screening. early detection and immunisation
•Effectively collaborate with key stakeholders to identify opportunities to develop and implement innovative cancer screening initiatives.
•Coordinate and setup community events
•Conduct community consultations and focus groups to ensure all our activities and resources are co-developed with communities

All about you
We are looking for someone with:
•Tertiary qualifications in public health, social sciences or a related discipline and demonstrated experience in supporting health strategies and programs for specific population groups
•Experience in presenting health messages to priority community groups in an engaging and informative manner
•Effective communication skills and the ability to interact professionally and empathetically with priority community groups.
•The ability to be flexible and adapt to changing environments-particularly travelling within Victoria to deliver training workshops, working on weekends and after hours

What we can offer you
This part-time fixed term position to end of June 2019 provides a full time equivalent salary within range $58,002-64,192 pa plus superannuation, annual leave loading and the benefits of not-for-profit salary packaging and a meal entertainment card. We also offer a flexible and friendly work environment, social and wellbeing activities and a location close to public transport.
