About the organisation

Organisation Name : Adopt Change- My Forever Family Program

We are a not-for profit organisation operating an innovative new program, working to deliver culturally appropriate, tailored programs, designed to both increase the number and range of carers across NSW and support them through their journey as foster carers, guardians and adoptive parents, enabling them to achieve the best possible outcomes for the children in their care.

About the role

  • Are you passionate about the welfare of children in Australia?
  • Are you driven to make a difference through your training and coordination expertise?
  • Do you believe Carers can be better supported through high quality education and resources?

Our new Training and Support Manager will facilitate and coordinate training delivery and peer support for carers in line with the My Forever Family program’s education and training strategy. Our program aims to reach carers across the state and fill gaps in existing training offered by NGO’s to offer a more complete package to address the needs of carers. The responsible person in this role will act as a key liaison to peer support groups and will work with these groups to provide materials and advice to new and existing carers.

Reporting to the Program Manager and working closely with your colleagues in Marketing and Carer Support, you will source and develop additional training materials and collateral to address identified skill and knowledge gaps of our program’s target groups. You’ll also be accountable for delivery of the annual training calendar and work collaborative with existing NGOs and accredited trainers to identify existing resources and programs for inclusion in the calendar.

Training will be delivered within an adult learning environment across 15 metropolitan and regional districts in NSW. Our clients include Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) groups as well as Aboriginal and Torres Straits Islander (ATSI) communities. Some clients have minimal or no access to technology, so a demonstrated approach of how to effectively reach and inform these groups will be crucial to our program’s success.   You will provide support to the carer community through the coordination of lead carers, organisation of events and meetings and providing culturally appropriate connection opportunities for ATSI and CALD carers.

To be considered for and ultimately be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • A Certificate IV in Training and Evaluation or Training facilitator accreditations in various evidence-based training packages
  • Parent program accreditation and delivered educational training programs to parents.
  • Delivered evidence based training packages tailored for ATSI carers
  • Worked with volunteers, children and families and facilitated support and community groups.
  • Capacity to create, maintain and publish a training calendar or schedule
  • Provided debriefing and supervision to other trainers.
  • Managed a training budget and resources.
  • An understanding of the challenges of accessing and educating clients in regional and remote areas
  • An understanding of Trauma training and evidence-based programs to treat trauma
  • Ability to lead, coach and mentor trainers to ensure that organisational guidelines and prescribed policy and procedures are followed.
  • Ability to apply project management skills to a variety of ongoing projects simultaneously to maximise efficiency and performance.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of competency-based training and assessment, including the ability to plan, manage and implement training solutions;
  • Highly developed communication skills both written and oral and negotiation skills;
  • Confident use of technology with sound computer skills
  • Ability to manage operational finances and resources within budget
  • High level self-management, critical analysis skills and thorough attention to detail
  • Understanding of, and/or experience with, foster care; adoption; and children in out of home care
  • Family support experience with casework is a distinct advantage.
