About us
Trust for Nature is a not-for-profit organisation that works collaboratively to protect nature on private land forever. We have protected about 100,000 ha across both covenants and our conservation reserves, and operate a Revolving Fund for conservation property purchases and sales. We have since evolved into one of Victoria’s primary private land conservation organisations, with several tools to help people protect biodiversity on private land.

About the Opportunity
The role of Legal Counsel is a key leadership position reporting to the CEO, responsible for the provision of legal advice and services for Trust for Nature. The role works with the Board of Trustees, executive and regional managers on legal matters affecting the organisation including oversight of the legal process associated with conservation covenants and property transactions in addition to legal advice and research relating to all functions of the Trust.
Knowledge and Experience
- Possesses or is eligible to obtain a Victorian Legal Practising Certificate that is not subject to supervised practice requirements;
- Experience outside a law firm environment preferred;
- Experience in independent management of complex or sensitive legal matters;
- Knowledge and practical experience in property law preferred;
- Project management expertise including reporting on key milestone achievements, demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and attention to detail;
- Broad experience in other areas of practice including public sector obligations, not for profit organisations, corporate governance, trust and contract law.
A National Police Check is required to be conducted as part of the selection process.
A base salary of $94,872 p.a pro rata (based on 1.0 FTE) is offered, plus 9.5% superannuation.
