The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research is Australia's oldest medical research institute. Based in the heart of Melbourne's biomedical precinct in Parkville, the Institute has more than 800 researchers who are working to understand, prevent and treat diseases including cancer, infectious diseases and immune disorders. More than 100 national and international clinical trials are underway based on research undertaken at the Institute.

About the role

About the position
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced professional to join Australia’s oldest medical research institute at one of the most important times in its 100-year history.
We are looking for a talented, dynamic and senior Grants Specialist to join a highly skilled Fundraising Team to grow philanthropic funding for research. The Grants Specialist is responsible for writing major funding proposals for the Institute in collaboration with scientists, identifying and cultivating relationships with new and existing donors, and writing top quality acquittal reports in a timely manner. The successful candidate will be driven by the important work that the Institute is doing to benefit human health in the areas of cancer, chronic inflammatory disease and infectious disease.

Selection Criteria
The appointee will demonstrate: • The ability to translate scientific language to winning plain English proposals • Experience with preparing written funding proposals for Trusts, Foundations, Private Ancillary Funds and/or Government grants • Both an in depth understanding of the medical research and philanthropic sectors. Degree qualified in health or medical science or an equivalent alternate combination of knowledge, training and/or experience. • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate sensitively and respectfully with internal and external stakeholders • Results focussed, a self-starter and have the ability to complete work with minimal supervision.

Terms of Appointment
This position is available for three years. A position description is available.

The successful candidate will be rewarded with a competitive salary, up to 17% superannuation and very attractive salary packaging options.
