About the role

PROGRAM OBJECTIVE
The Strong Minds program within our Community Initiatives Team is funded by the Department of Social Services (DSS) under the Family Mental Health Support Service (FMHSS) program. It services three locations in Western and South Western Sydney; Fairfield East, Carramar and Auburn. This program offers early intervention supports to vulnerable families of children who are at risk of or affected by mental illness to reach their potential
through practical assistance, non-clinical therapeutic support and education and information services.

MAIN DUTIES
• Provision of short and long term assistance to families through counselling, case management and family interventions
• Provide early intervention support for families of young people who suffer or are at risk of suffering from mental illnesses
• Provide information to children, youth and their families on de-stigmatising mental health problems, identifying early signs of mental health issues and building resilience for managing mental health issues through creatively and culturally appropriate mediums
• Develop the capacity of children, youth and their families through evidence based therapeutic groups
• Understand and ensure delivery of support processes utilizing best practice framework, effective assessments and collaboration with other agencies
• Contribute to the development, continuous improvement and evaluation of family support strategies with young people by keeping up to date on research and best practice and participating in various supervision

ESSENTIAL
1. Tertiary level qualification with an approved RTO in Psychology, Social Work or equivalent
2. At least 2 years’ experience in Counselling
3. Membership or eligibility to join a governing body such as PACFA, AASW or ACA
4. Experience in delivery of services to culturally and linguistically diverse communities and to those with a disadvantaged background
5. Practical experience in case management to children and young people with mental health issues
6. Demonstrated ability in conflict resolution and mediation
7. Sound understanding of Trauma Informed Care and Client Centered Practice
8. Understanding of safe work practices
9. Proven written and verbal communication including case note writing and interpersonal skills
10. A community language (e.g. Arabic, Vietnamese) is desirable
11. A commitment to social justice
12. Australian Drivers Licence
13. Current and verified National Police Check and Working With Children Check
