The Smith Family is a national, independent children’s charity helping disadvantaged Australians to get the most out of their education, so they can create better futures for themselves. We are currently seeking a General Manager to join our growing NSW team.

Reporting to the Head of State and Territory Operations and working with a dedicated and passionate team, this pivotal role will provide senior regional representation and overarching State and Territory leadership of The Smith Family, both internally and externally. This high profile leadership role is responsible for influencing and nurturing relationships with external stakeholders to deliver sustainable resources and ensure the successful delivery of all KPI’s contributing to The Smith Family’s vision.

 

A day in the life of a General Manager might look like this, but every day can be different. Primarily, you will be responsible for:

 

  • Driving a high performance team
  • Developing and managing financial budgets in line with expectations of Income and Expenditure
  • Driving business development and fundraising initiatives in line with Policy and Program requirements
  • Manage and Oversee Events and fundraising activities
  • Initiating, building and nurturing effective on-going relationships with major providers of funding and driving the development of new and enhanced corporate and government support
  • Maintaining business analysis review of the State and Territory and pursue appropriate business opportunities to meet/exceed business targets
  • Assisting with the development of and communication of the strategic goals and objectives as set out in the Corporate Operating Plan and the State and Territory Plans.
  • Profiling and representing the organisation positively in the media, and in relevant forums, committees and conferences, consistent with the TSF brand.

 

It takes a special kind of person to be our General Manager. Our successful candidate will bring the following:

 

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications
  • Blend of commercial and NFP leadership experience
  • Demonstrated people leadership experience
  • Previous experience in a State General Manager role or equivalent
  • Significant income generation experience in working with or in the non-profit sector
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated public speaking and presentation experience
  • Proven networking, consultation and relationship management skills
  • Strong financial acumen
