About the role
- Fixed term full time position for 12 months, commencing January 2019
- SCHCADS Award – Community Development Worker Level 6 (pay point subject to experience and qualifications)
Seniors Rights Victoria leads in responding to older people experiencing abuse. This legal position is available at an exciting time of growing recognition of elder abuse as a major social issue.
Within the context of ageism and family violence, the Community Lawyer empowers older people and service providers through legal solutions. The position is a great opportunity to achieve social justice for a growing demographic.
We seek an experienced and motivated person to:
- provide high quality legal advice and casework to clients
- appear in Courts and Tribunals on behalf of clients
- provide secondary consultations to community workers and lawyers
- engage in systemic advocacy and law reform projects
Seniors Rights Victoria is a program of the Council on the Ageing (COTA) Victoria, the leading not-for-profit organisation representing the interests and rights of people aged 50+ in Victoria.
To be successful in this positon you will have post-admission experience in areas of law relevant to older people, a strong rights-based approach, ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team, and a commitment to addressing the needs of older people.
