Summary of program and its objectives:

The Youth Transitions division functions as an ‘incubator’ for the development of practice and service models that engage and sustain young people experiencing disadvantage in education, training and employment. We work with young people experiencing homelessness, young people who are in out of home care, young people who are newly arrived migrants, and young people who are unemployed.

Our non-competitive approach to service delivery and co-design enables us to work collaboratively across key sectors. We work with young people, community, business and all levels of government across Australia to develop, test, refine and consolidate effective and scalable models. This includes concerted effort to bring attention to the realities faced by young people experiencing disadvantage and to the urgent need for policy and practice reform. Our work is supported by the BSL’s Research and Policy Centre, which works ‘hand in glove’ with the Youth Transitions division on project development, implementation and evaluation.

About the role

Main responsibilities of the role:  

To lead the Education portfolio work of the Youth Transitions Division. This role will lead on the Certificate 1 in Developing Independence programs, the BSL’s involvement in the Navigator program, Department of Education specific contract work around pre-accredited training and Vocational Education and Training reform and Sector wide/TAFE requests for new projects, This role will have weekly State wide travel and National travel as required.

To meet the selection criteria, candidates will require:

Essential

  • Demonstrated broad knowledge and understanding of policy and practice in the area of education, employment, homelessness, and disadvantage among young people in the Australian context.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, facilitate and manage both accredited and non-accredited training for multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to project manage programs in the education space, including budgeting, reporting and staff management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team to facilitate the translation of knowledge into strategic objectives.
  • Proven strong organisational skills, ability to manage multiple tasks with an outcome focus.
  • Strong skills in stakeholder management and collaboration.
  • High level written and verbal communication skills.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in the area of education, youth or community services or related field.
  • Capacity to present service models and innovations in public forums and to key stakeholders such as Government Ministers and senior public servants.
  • Proven youth focus, with an understanding of and commitment to the values and ideals of the Youth Transitions Division including the Advantaged Thinking approach.
  • Understanding of and empathy with the values and ideals of the Brotherhood.
  • Victorian Driver’s License.

Desirable

  • Experience in developing and managing youth-focused projects
  • Experience working in TAFE context

This is a full time 12 month maximum term position working 38 hours per week.

Salary will be in the range of $77,000 to $82,000 per annum plus an allowance in lieu of a vehicle, based on skills and experience plus superannuation. Attractive salary packaging provisions are available to increase take home pay.
