The Mornington Peninsula and Western Port Biosphere Reserve was designated by UNESCO under its Man and the Biosphere program in November 2002, following the nomination process supported by Federal and State governments, Cities of Casey and Frankston, Bass Coast, Cardinia and Mornington Peninsula Shire Councils, and members of the community of the region including French Island.

The Board of the Western Port Biosphere is seeking expressions of interest for appointment of up to 3 members to the Board of the Foundation.

Do you have experience and knowledge in one or more of the following required portfolios , environment or natural resources, strategic or business planning, tourism, communications, marketing, financial management? Experience and knowledge in not-for-profit administration and governance, community engagement, education and research, commercial law, arts and culture are also desirable attributes.

Designated in 2002 as Biosphere Reserve under UNESCO Man and the Biosphere Program (MAB), the Western Port Biosphere Reserve is unique, encompassing five diverse local government areas and French Island. In 2014 the Western Port Biosphere Foundation passed its UNESCO ten-year review, a report to UNESCO on progress against the MAB goals.

The role of the Biosphere is to foster conservation and sustainable development by facilitating partnerships to create an environmentally, economically and socially sustainable future for Western Port. The Biosphere represents a partnership of municipalities, community and government organisations who share goals for the long-term health and well-being of the Western Port Biosphere Reserve.

The board is responsible for the operation of the Foundation including oversight of the management of projects, policies and staff. Term of the appointment is for two years. Applications close 25th October 2018
