L’Arche Beni-Abbes Community, located in Hobart , Tasmania, Australia is a community of people, with and without intellectual disabilities who share their lives through creating friendships with each other and the wider community. L’Arche Beni-Abbes Community is also an incorporated association, operating autonomously within the structure of L’Arche Australia, which is a member of the International Federation of L’Arche communities.
About the role
The Board and Community of L’Arche Beni-Abbes Community is seeking a person with a vocation to serve the L’Arche Community in the dual roles of Community Leader and CEO. As Community Leader, you will lead your fellow community members to implement and live the Community Mandate that names the key priorities and direction for the next four years, in line with the core values of L’Arche and in consultation and support from L’Arche Australia and the community consultative forum of the association, the Community Council.
We are looking for a highly motivated person who will be committed to the L’Arche Identity & Mission, its core values, and can draw on significant previous experience in community- based organisations. Your well-developed leadership and management skills, together with extensive experience in and knowledge of the disability services sector, will enable you to guide the organisation to flourish in the recently introduced National Disability Insurance Scheme, which has caused a period of significant change in business functions in the past 12-18 months, and can bring new opportunities for services to members with disability.
These skills will also enable you to provide strong support to the Board in ensuring that L’Arche Beni-Abbes Community remains a financially secure and well-managed organisation, committed to its staff and community members. Your personal integrity and record of working with vulnerable people will meet the highest standards. The position has a four year term with remuneration negotiable.
A Community Leader in L’Arche is selected according to a nomination process carried out by a discernment team; this comprises four people in the community and is led by the L’Arche Federation representative, Dr Julia Walters, L’Arche Australia Board Chair.
