We have vacancies for Counsellor Advocates (CAs) in Dandenong, Ringwood and Dallas initially for 1 year fixed term. You can choose between working 4 or 5 days per week.
- Ringwood & Dallas – working with adults, families, youth and children
- Dandenong – working with families, youth and children – with a focus on preschool and younger children
About the role
You’ll be responsible for delivering effective and appropriate assessment, counselling and advocacy services to clients. Our client base are survivors of torture and other traumatic events and you will be working with refugee background people of all ages and various backgrounds. This will include working with asylum seekers which includes people referred from detention centres and community detention, as well as asylum seekers living in the community.
Reporting to a Team Leader, you will be supported by highly skilled and qualified practitioners and receive regular supervision and valuable support.
In all roles, you will need to travel throughout the Melbourne metro area to perform some home visits, school visits and outreach work will be required. You will be provided with the use of the Foundation House fleet vehicle for outreach work and as such it is a requirement of these roles that you have a valid driver’s licence.
You will be degree qualified as a psychologist, social worker or similar and be able to demonstrate your experience providing therapeutic interventions, advocacy and risk assessment. With a demonstrated understanding of trauma informed practice models in working children and their families, you will have applied a range of approaches and experience in supporting complex cases such as mental health, family violence and substance abuse issues.
These roles are well suited to candidates who are organised, client-focused and who can effectively manage tasks and deadlines while maintaining a high degree of self-awareness and professionalism. You will also demonstrate a positive, creative and collaborative approach to the delivery of these vital services.
Remuneration and Benefits
Remuneration is based on our Enterprise Agreement 2014 up to $82,814 gross per annum pro rata plus superannuation. Benefits include generous salary packaging, leave loading, a range of flexible working options and a highly supportive team environment.

About the Organisation
The Victorian Foundation for Survivors of Torture Inc. (also known as Foundation House) provides services to advance the health, wellbeing and human rights of people of refugee backgrounds in Victoria who have experienced torture or other traumatic events in their country of origin or while fleeing those countries. The organisation was established in Melbourne in 1987 and is non-denominational, politically neutral and non-aligned. Foundation House is a state-wide agency offering services in metropolitan, regional and rural areas, with head office based in Brunswick. We have approximately 200 staff with metropolitan regional offices in Dallas, Sunshine, Dandenong and Ringwood.
