About the role

This position is responsible for the coordination of the Raise the Rate campaign at ACOSS. The campaign is key to poverty alleviation in Australia. It aims to increase the rate of Newstart, Youth Allowance and other related payments by a minimum of $75 a week. Currently, these payments are so low that the majority of people receiving them live in poverty. The rate of Newstart has not been increased for 24 years, while the cost of living has increased. There is broad support across the community, including from local Anti-Poverty Networks, the Business Council of Australia and the Australian Council of Trade Unions, for this historic campaign.
The Campaign Coordinator is responsible for the project management of the campaign, including organising campaign activities, managing key relationships to progress the campaign, and identifying opportunities and tactics to achieve set goals. The position will also carry out campaigning duties including, producing campaign materials and content, writing campaign EDMs, social media posts and media releases.
This position is a six-month contract, with a possibility of extension by two months.

Responsibilities:
1. Project Management of the Raise the Rate campaign:
• Developing timelines for campaign activities and regularly tracking progress.
• Attending regular Campaign Committee meetings to report back on campaign progress and assist in devising next steps.
• Ensuring internal colleagues, including the CEO, have a clear understanding of the campaign tasks they are responsible for and when they need to be completed by.
• Identifying campaign opportunities and strategies to achieve campaign goals.
• Identifying opportunities for collaboration to broaden campaign support.

2. Community Organising:
• Proactively engaging and maintaining relationships with community groups, member organisations, unions, and other stakeholders, to encourage grassroots campaigning.
• Consulting with key stakeholders, including community groups and members, on the campaign’s direction and seeking feedback.
• Providing on-going, ad-hoc advice and information to community groups, ACOSS member organisations and non-member organisations.
• Acting as a conduit between ACOSS and community groups to share expertise in advocacy, media management and event management.
• Distributing campaign materials to community groups and grassroots stakeholders and assisting groups to put them to best use.
• Keeping and maintaining a database of community contacts within ACOSS’ existing information management system.

3. Campaign implementation:
• Producing campaign materials and merchandise with external providers.
• Producing campaign content, including videos, with external providers.
• Drafting engaging supporter EDMs, social media posts, and local media releases. Working with the Media and Communications Director and external providers on the campaign’s digital strategy and implementation.
• Engaging local media outlets, distributing local media releases and managing local press conferences.
• Other campaign and administrative duties as directed.
Organisational relationships:
• Reports to Director of Media and Communications.
• Works closely with the Campaign Committee, which includes the Director of Policy and Advocacy, Director of Media and Communications and the Senior Policy and Advocacy Officer (income support).
Selection criteria:
• A commitment to ACOSS’ values and goal to reduce poverty and inequality
• Experience in project managing and/or implementing an advocacy campaign or multiple advocacy campaigns
• Experience engaging community groups and other stakeholders in an advocacy campaign
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills, with experience in writing for online
• An understanding of the political, media and digital landscapes.
Desirable selection criteria:
• An understanding of social security policy
• Skills in design, photography and/or videography
• Experience developing and/or implementing a social media strategy
• Experience in managing relationships with external providers.
Salary and conditions
This position is a six-month contract, with a possibility of extension by two months.
As per the ACOSS Collective Agreement 2015, this role is classified as a Level Three position with a current salary range of $77,673 – $86,075 per annum plus 9.5% superannuation.
The position is based in ACOSS’ office in Redfern, Sydney. Some inter and intra-state travel may be required.
Hours
Standard hours of work at 73.5 per fortnight, with flex time.
