About the organisation

Organisation Name : DEBRA Australia via People for Purpose

DEBRA Australia is a non-government-funded, volunteer-based organisation established in Australia in 2012 to support and represent the interests of Australians living with Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB). This is a rare, painful, debilitating (and sometimes fatal) skin condition that significantly impacts the lives of people living with it.  DEBRA Australia assists not only children, adults and families living with this condition, but also supports treating hospitals and health professionals; promotes and funds research and creates greater awareness of EB in the wider community.  Their mission is to ensure that people living with EB have access to the best quality support and medical care, while also driving the effective development of treatments and cure for EB.

About the role

  • Create positive change in people’s lives through operational excellence
  • Inspire and guide a small, passionate team
  • Use your strategic acumen to ensure long term sustainability

DEBRA Australia is seeking an energetic and professional General Manager to support the Chair and the Board of Directors, to ensure clear strategic direction and to lead fundraising activities to enable growth. The General Manager will ensure operational excellence and efficiency; provide inspirational leadership, and work to raise the profile of the organisation. In this newly created role, you will work closely with the Chair and take responsibility for all financial, people and operational aspects of the organisation.

You will be committed to formulating, regularly reviewing and implementing, the organisation’s overarching strategy to ensure DEBRA Australia delivers on its business and operational goals. Being part of a small team, this is very much a broad, “hands on”, operational role principally focussed on oversight of all aspects of the charity’s strategic plans, fundraising activities, people leadership and operational policies and initiatives. You will understand the importance of, and be responsible for building financial stability, overseeing program delivery, measuring impact and marketing and communications. You will be a great leader capable of motivating and inspiring a small, geographically diverse team of staff and volunteers.

This is a great opportunity for a highly committed, experienced and energetic leader who will oversee the operations of the organisation, drive growth, and be a true advocate for DEBRA Australia.  You will be commercial in your approach, have experience working in small organisations or social enterprises and will have the right ‘head and heart’ balance to ensure DEBRA Australia is run strategically and efficiently.

The successful applicant could be located either in Melbourne or Sydney but would be expected to travel as needed to the other city, as well as occasionally to other locations. Some after hours and weekend work would be required.

Initially the General Manager would be expected to work from home, with a view to establishing a small office in the future.
