The Australian Institute of International Affairs is a 90-year-old national organisation whose mission is to promote public understanding of Australia’s relations with the world.
About the role
We are looking for a new National Executive Director to lead our national office in a period of great international change. This is an important and high-profile job with the opportunity to make a significant contribution to the Australian debate about international policy at a critical time.
The person appointed will be a member of the Board of the Institute and responsible to the Board for the effective operations of the national office. She or he will be required to represent the Institute at senior levels nationally and internationally.
The successful candidate will have:
- A deep interest in, and understanding of, the mission of the AIIA and of Australia’s international relations, including the policy and research environment
- The capacity to build the resources of the Institute and manage the national office, including its finances and human resources
- The ability to work effectively with all the institute’s stakeholders, including state branches, members of the AIIA, government ministers and departments and financial supporters
- The communications skills necessary to represent the Institute at a high level nationally and internationally and to advance its interests
