We’re currently on the lookout for a highly motivated Bilingual individual, to fill the position of Thousand Miles Project worker. Someone who’s committed to providing quality and reliable care, to help our Chinese residents. Enabling them to remain as independent as possible, in their own home.

Within this stimulating newly created role you’ll be responsible for the creation and implementation of a model of care. A model which engages Chinese speaking residents, living at the Gordon Street Older Person’s Highrise, to participate in ongoing, culturally appropriate activities. The project will also assist Chinese residents to negotiate cultural barriers, to access health and social relevant services within the local community, as well as promoting natural networks among Chinese residents.

Your role may vary and will include daily living skills, community access, promoting independence, planning and helping our clients achieve their goals. The objectives of the program include;

  • Assisting clients to maintain stable housing and independence through monitoring and assertive outreach strategies;
  • Ensuring isolated and vulnerable tenants have access to appropriate supports and services;
  • Contribute to older public tenant’s sense of safety, independence and security; and
  • Enhance the social and community involvement of older public tenants.

About You

To be considered for this exciting opportunity you’ll have;

  • Ability to speak Chinese and other relevant community languages;
  • Completion of a degree level qualification, Social Work or equivalent;
  • Experience in community based support work and a proven ability to work with difficult to engage clients who have a range of complex needs;
  • The confidence working in a satellite campus on a public housing estate;
  • Demonstrated competency in delivery of group programs;
  • Demonstrated ability to engage respectfully and appropriately with people from culturally and socially diverse backgrounds, and from marginalised groups within the community; and
  • A current License to drive in the State of Victoria.
