About Foundation House

The Victorian Foundation for Survivors of Torture Inc. (also known as Foundation House) provides services to advance the health, wellbeing and human rights of people of refugee backgrounds in Victoria who have experienced torture or other traumatic events in their country of origin or while fleeing those countries.

The organisation was established in Melbourne in 1987 and is non-denominational, politically neutral and non-aligned. Foundation House is a state-wide agency offering services in metropolitan, regional and rural areas, with head office based in Brunswick. We have approximately 200 staff with metropolitan regional offices in Dallas, Sunshine, Dandenong and Ringwood.

About the role

  • A practitioner with significant experience working with people from refugee backgrounds
  • Deliver specialised professional learning and support organisational development
  • Working 2 days per week until 30 June 2020.

The program

The highly regarded Foundation House Professional and Organisational Development (POD) program supports and enhances the skills and knowledge of individuals, organisations and systems providing services to people who are of refugee backgrounds. The work of the team includes an advertised calendar of events; partnerships with health, community and education providers in the design and delivery of professional learning activities and programs; and design and delivery of professional learning activities for Foundation House staff.

You will be part of a motivated and skilled team of senior practitioners and will be provided with professional development opportunities in order to develop and refine your skills in providing professional development and capacity building activities.

Position information

The Facilitator will have responsibility for the implementation of a Community of Practice in Child and Youth Mental Health and provide a range of professional development and learning activities to health, education and community practitioners and services in working with children and young people from refugee backgrounds.

This role is based in Brunswick, very accessible to public transport and with on-site parking.

 

About you

  • Experience working with people from refugee- backgrounds including a demonstrated understanding of the impact of torture and trauma, working with children, adolescents and families
  • At least 5 years practitioner experience in your field (psychology, social work or other relevant qualification)
  • Some experience in the facilitation of professional development to health and community service practitioners
  • High level communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to establish working relationships with other service providers including senior staff

 

Remuneration is based on our Enterprise Agreement 2014 up to $90,264 gross per annum pro rata. Benefits include generous salary packaging, leave loading, a range of flexible working options and a highly supportive team environment.
