The Smith Family is a national, independent children’s charity helping disadvantaged Australians to get the most out of their education, so they can create better futures for themselves. Reporting to the Project Manager, we are currently seeking a Senior Project Officer to join our growing team.
The Smith Family is a Facilitating Partner with the Department of Education in delivering the School Community Hub initiative in North East Launceston and Wynyard, Tasmania. As a Senior Project Officer you will be part of a small team dedicated to the School Community Hub initiative. With focus, and high level attention to detail your role will be to support projects, collect and manage data, liaise with stakeholders and to maintain positive community relationships.
A day in the life of a Senior Project Officer – School Community Hub might look like this, but you will need to be adaptable depending on the needs of the project:
- Supporting and organizing small projects
- Developing and maintaining appropriate data management processes
- Supporting our School Community Hub Project Team in reporting
- Facilitating and participating in partnership activities and promotions in various parts of the region
- Supporting the volunteer recruitment process, including organizing training for new volunteers
It takes a special kind of person to be our Senior Project Officer. Our successful candidate will bring the following:
- Tertiary qualification in Social Science, Humanities or equivalent work experience
- Solid experience leading community based projects
- Understanding of outcomes based accountability frameworks
- Demonstrated ability to develop and apply capacity building methodologies across the community sector
- Experience in data collection systems and data management systems
- High level communication skills (verbal and written)
- Full current Drivers Licence or an ability to obtain one prior or shortly after commencement
You will need excellent communication skills, patience, understanding and the ability to be flexible in a sometimes demanding role where priorities can change quickly. You also need to have strong project planning and/or management experience and be a nimble administrator as this role is about making sure things are on track.
