CareerTrackers is a national non-profit organisation that creates internship opportunities for Indigenous university students.

About the role

  • Inspire excellence among future generations of Indigenous Australians
  • Lead to engaged stakeholders at all levels
  • Ensure operational excellence for continued growth & opportunity

Established in 2009, CareerTrackers Indigenous Internship Program (CareerTrackers), is an innovative social enterprise, leading professional Indigenous employment programs in Australia. The organisation creates multi-year internships and private sector employment opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander university students and has provided more than 3000 students with internships and employment opportunities. CareerTrackers continues to work with 37 universities and 108 corporate partners nationally and represents a generation of Indigenous professionals who will change the landscape, not only of corporate Australia, but of the wider Australian society. By 2020 CareerTrackers will have over 1000 alumni; a generation of Indigenous professionals who are changing the landscape, shining a light on Indigenous advantage – not disadvantage.

CareerTrackers are seeking a new CEO to perpetuate the legacy of its founding CEO and build on the strong reputation and success of the organisation to date. The new CEO will focus on operational excellence which will underpin continued growth as the next positive chapter is written for CareerTrackers.

With a genuine commitment to excellence and young indigenous advantage, the new CEO will be responsible for the future strategic direction of CareerTrackers, and the true leadership of its people, students, partners and stakeholders more broadly. You will be an excellent communicator, capable of engaging individuals at all levels and you will continue to strengthen the organisations public profile, through your work.

Your commercial acumen will ensure the organisation’s solid financial position is maintained and strengthened as you continue to engage funders and creatively consider and develop ways to grow revenue and profitability. This will ensure CareerTrackers’ social impact is maximised. Measuring and reporting on activity and impact will be key as your team, business and impact grow.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a seasoned leader, who is influential, entrepreneurial and has a strong passion for changing the face and attitudes of corporate Australia; driven by positively impacting outcomes for Indigenous Australia.  You will have a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a wide variety of stakeholders including government and corporate partners, alumni, the tertiary education sector, students and the team. The CEO will require a leadership style that enhances a strong team culture, creates role clarity and accountability for the team, whilst nurturing the autonomy required for innovation.  You must have the presence, intellect and influence to accelerate this significant work.

Ideally, you will have an awareness and understanding of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and have a preparedness to commit to indigenous advancement.  Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander candidates are encouraged to apply.
