About the role

Dynamic, creative, multi-skilled business leaders are invited to contribute their expertise to help reconfigure & drive a national rural support organisation.

  • Based Brisbane. Interstate applications encouraged. Hon role with expenses paid.

Operating through communities across Australia, this support organisation is the central point of focus for primary producers and communities adversely affected by climate events.  Recently confronted with an unanticipated rate of demand and support for its services, it is looking to upskill both its Board and its operations to hedge against the future.

To do that effectively, it needs four new non-executive Directors – who are creative and vibrant, commercially smart and with a talent for seeing past the paradigm. It is hoped that one of these Directors will be willing and equipped to take the role of Chair.

The aim is to build a dynamic, synergistic, well balanced Board of business leaders with explicit skills and knowledge who have already achieved notable success in their respective fields.

And while it’s expected that candidates will also be seasoned, well-connected Board Members that’s not absolutely necessary. What is essential to these positions is a good grasp of finance and governance, an appreciation of the changing rural landscape, an interest in the way primary production and farming work, and a deep concern for the communities and families it involves.

With the communications and robust personal attributes that have made you an appreciated contributor in sophisticated commercial and/or non-profit Boardrooms and C-suites a given, in this situation, it is vital that you are an unequivocal team player and vigorous ambassador.

Engaging unconditionally in this role for the length of your appointment, you will gladly dedicate your time, energy, curiosity, skills, creativity, contacts and personal brand to be part of a force with the power to improve the lives of rural people who are struggling.

A proven tactician and superb communicator, who is financially and managerially strong and entrepreneurially focused, you’re also required to also bring some of the following explicit skills, attributes and experience.

  • fundraising expertise
  • sophisticated understanding of marketing, branding, PR & communications (inc. social media)
  • a reputation as a canny thinker, with the knack of asking all the right questions that keep a business enabled and on track
  • comprehensive knowledge of the rural sector
  • an interest in farming sustainability & climate issues
  • a genuine enthusiasm for the aims and achievements of the Board, management, staff, volunteers and clients of this organisation.

Remember, you don’t need to be all of these things. Probably no-one is. But skills and experience in those areas will help balance the Board and therefore are eagerly sought, in whatever combination they might appear.
