About the role

An exciting opportunity for an experienced Philanthropy Manager to join Australia’s most dynamic international performing arts organisation.

Led by its charismatic Artistic Director, Richard Tognetti AO, the Australian Chamber Orchestra is renowned world-wide for its inspired and courageous programming and unrivalled performances.

The ACO’s Philanthropy department is a busy and successful team of six, responsible for raising over a quarter of the ACO’s annual turnover. This is achieved through a strategic blend of creative philanthropic programs and large-scale fundraising events.

To be successful in this role, you will be a confident, articulate individual with good knowledge of Australia’s philanthropic landscape and the Performing Arts industry.  Reporting to the Director of Philanthropy, the Philanthropy Manager plays a vital role in the team. 

About the role
Working with the Director of Philanthropy, the Philanthropy Manager is responsible for:

  • Implementing strategies to deliver meaningful and financially successful relationships with a portfolio of donors, charitable trusts and foundations
  • Developing and growing ACO Next, our program for young philanthropists
  • Matching the interests and priorities of donors and trusts and foundations with the funding needs of the ACO’s programs and mission
  • Maximising the potential of existing and prospective supporters through dynamic, tailored and one-on-one personal engagement, targeted communications, visits and events
  • Managing growth of a donor pipeline while ensuring the accuracy and sensitivity of reporting and record keeping.
     

Skills and Knowledge

  • Ideally at least 3-5 years’ experience in the delivery of fundraising / development programs or equivalent experience in a client management / sales / business development role;
  • A strong understanding of Australia’s philanthropic landscape, including the tax implications of donations and grants;
  • A proven ‘doer’ with a strong focus on execution within small, agile teams;
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills with the ability to liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders at a variety of levels;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • A confident, personable, outgoing manner and a flexible approach;
  • A creative approach to managing relationships with individual Donors;
  • The ability to manage competing priorities in a busy work environment;
  • Experienced in the use of Tessitura or a similar system and database management experience;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and other programs as required.
