About Foundation House
The Victorian Foundation for Survivors of Torture Inc. (VFST) provides a range of services to people in Victoria who have been subject to torture or other traumatic events prior to their arrival in Australia. This group includes refugees and asylum seekers. It is non-denominational, politically neutral and non-aligned.

The program
The Schools Support Program works with primary and secondary schools to support staff in their work with students and families of a refugee background. The program develops and maintains relationships with teaching professionals whilst working collaboratively within existing program frameworks to implement capacity building and change processes. Our innovative program resource School’s In for Refugees: A whole-school approach to supporting students and families of refugee backgrounds (SIFR) supports schools and school-based professionals in their efforts to provide a high quality education to young people of refugee backgrounds. About the role
Working with the Program Co-ordinator, the Senior Policy Advisor and Schools Development role will develop, plan and implement a range of strategies to enhance the education sector (with a focus on school sector) affecting students and their families of refugee backgrounds. The Senior Policy Advisor and Schools Development role will undertake complex policy and program work, while also building effective relationships with key stakeholders across the education sector. They will use strong conceptual and analytical abilities to contribute to the development of robust policy advice on issues affecting students from refugee backgrounds and their families. This role links the work of our program and the work of the Victorian Education sector more broadly. The role is part of the School Support Program, with direct supervision and support for two School Support Officers undertaking the Schools Development work.
About you
You will have highly developed analytical abilities, and enjoy reading and identifying potential opportunities to contribute to policy development as well as implications of proposed policy options. You will be a strong networker who builds relationships and liaises with stakeholders, along with a collaborative style which enables you to lead and design this area of work. With a working knowledge of the Victorian education system, you will also bring an understanding of issues that may impact on students and family of refugee background. You will pull this all together with your excellent organisational and project management skills.
Salary and Benefits
Remuneration is based on our Enterprise Agreement 2014 up to $90,263 gross per annum pro rata. Benefits include generous salary packaging, leave loading, a range of flexible working options and a highly supportive team environment.
