About the role

We are seeking suitably qualified and experienced Caseworkers to provide casework and psychological support  to Forgotten Australians, inclusive of Former Child Migrants and Stolen Generations who were placed in institutional care.  The successful candidates should have an understanding of the history of institutional care, orphanages, children’s homes, and other out-of-home-care in Australia. This includes understanding of the issues / barriers faced by ‘Forgotten Australians and Child Migrants’ and the long term impact of their care experience. 

Applicants for this position must be able to demonstrate skills in providing trauma informed support, information and referral to facilitate client well-being.

The NSW Support Service for Forgotten Australians is provided out of Wattle Place which is based in Harris Park and Parramatta. The program aims to provide quality support to Forgotten Australians and Former Child migrants who were in care in Australia from the 1920’s to 1990 with counselling, supported file reading and family tracing, reunion, referrals and social activities.

We have multiple positions available with flexibility to work part time or full time. The days and hours of work will be discussed with the successful candidate. 

The annual base salary range for this position is as given below:

$70,570 to $78,824 (if this were a full time role, prorata for part time)   

The hourly rate range is $36.19 to $40.42

In addition to the base salary, there is the employers contribution (9.5%) to superannuation, leave loading (17.5%) and we offer salary packaging

Actual salary will be negotiated with the successful candidate being dependent on their level of experience, training and qualifications.

The essential and desirable criteria / experience for this role are below and your application must demonstrate competencies in them:

  • Formal qualifications / working towards formal qualifications in Social Work, Psychology or other relevant disciplines;
  • Demonstrated experience in providing psychological support for adults who have experienced trauma (physical, sexual psychological, emotional neglect) as children.
  • Ability to provide quality therapeutic casework, to develop individual tailored case plans and coordinate referral to suit client need;
  • Ability to travel throughout New South Wales, interstate and work flexible hours;

Desirable

  • Experience with working with Aboriginal And Torres Strait Island people and ability to ensure cultural safety;
