The role of Specialist Legal Educator is to increase domestic violence legal knowledge and capacity of the DFVS team. Specifically, the role is responsible for working alongside caseworkers to facilitate client agency within various aspects of the legal system. In addition, the role will work within the Community Programs Team to produce and deliver culturally appropriate educational materials relating to DFV and the legal rights of women and children living in the NPY region.

It is not a requirement of this role to be a practising solicitor. You are not required to provide formal legal advice.

You will have knowledge and understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal women and children who experience domestic violence in remote communities. You will also have understanding of, or the ability to become familiar in relevant law for the NT, SA, WA and Federal jurisdictions. In addition, you will have demonstrated experience designing and delivering a legal community education program.

We offer a range of benefits and you will join a diverse and inclusive organisation in an environment and landscape unique to Australia. NPY Women’s Council was founded and is still led today by women from the NPY region and you will be part of something much more significant than just a job.

We encourage support, ongoing development and connections in your work and give you the autonomy that creates a culture of trust. You will also receive a comprehensive culturally aware orientation program, best practice supervision from Managers and flexible working arrangements.

Underpinning this will be a competitive, above award based salary, superannuation, salary packaging benefits, 5 weeks of annual leave, 3 days of additional leave, retention bonus and generous personal leave to care for you and your family.
