About the role

  • Temporary Full-time position until 20 December 2019
  • 76 hours per fortnight

 

Are you a dynamic individual with a commitment to provide low intensity support to young people with mental health needs?

 

The Youth Support Worker works with the Hub Mental Health Coordinator & Health Team to provide low intensity individual support and group activities for young people with mental health needs.

To undertake the Youth Support Worker role, you will require a tertiary qualification in Social Work, Social Science, Psychology or similar. You will have a Working with Children Suitability Card (Blue Card) or willingness to apply for a Blue Card and hold a current Queensland driver’s license.

 

Selection Criteria

To be successful in your application you will need to provide written responses to the following selection criteria:

  • Understanding of and commitment to BYS vision and objectives and demonstrated experience working within a strengths-based, harm reduction, and social justice framework.
  • Understanding of the effect of severe and complex mental health issues and social isolation on young people, including co-occurring substance use, homelessness and barriers to social support.
  • A demonstrated understanding of the principles of trauma-informed, strengths-based, recovery-oriented practice, and experience in support / health interventions based on these principles.
  • Experience navigating the NDIS system, or ability to quickly acquire knowledge of such.
  • Demonstrated self-reflective and critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills, including strong interpersonal skills and writing skills and the ability to advocate on behalf of others and develop and maintain networks.
