Gambler’s Help City and Inner North (GHCIN) is part of Melbourne Counselling Service (MCS).

We are looking for a motivated person who shares our mission and values. If you have the passion and drive to commit yourself to a challenging and rewarding role we invite you to apply for our current vacancy of Therapeutic Counsellor.

About the role:

This is an exciting opportunity to join our highly professional team of counsellors who:

  • Deliver high quality evidence based and person-centred counselling
  • Provide assessment and counselling to a wide range of clients (gamblers and affected others), with a broad range of presenting issues.
  • Utilise a range of frameworks and approaches including: Strength-based, Trauma Informed, Family and Child inclusive, Recovery-orientated, Cultural Safety, Harm-minimisation.
  • Undertake report writing and liaison with other service providers
  • Provide training, secondary consultation, co-counselling and other innovative and flexible responses to relevant services in the catchment area.

Reporting to the Gambler’s Help Clinical Team Leader, you will be based at sites within the Inner North catchment area (Cities of Melbourne, Yarra, Money Valley and Moreland).

Salary/Position Information

Salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Health Professionals and Support Services Award 2010, Health Professional stream, Level 3.

As part of the position, the successful applicant will be required to work in an after-hours roster (1 day a week – 11:30am to 7:30pm).

The ideal applicant will demonstrate:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working therapeutically with a range of client presentations
  • Experience in delivering individual, couple, family and group counselling
  • Knowledge of addictive behaviour and intervention for people with addictive behaviours
  • Experience in providing training and working collaboratively with other services/sectors
  • Tertiary qualifications in psychology or social work or related disciplines are required
  • Applicants must be eligible for registration in accordance with the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (Victoria) Act 2009 or for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers or for membership of PACFA

The Salvation Army is a Child Safe Organisation. All child facing roles will require the successful completion of a Working with Children Check.

All applicants will also be required to undertake a mandatory National Police Check and be eligible to work in Australia.
