About the organisation
Legacy is an enduring and iconic Australian institution that was established in the years shortly following the First World War when the Australian community was faced with tens of thousands of returned servicemen, many suffering from physical and psychological injuries. Additionally, many thousands had been killed in action or had died from their wounds, leaving widows and children.
In 1923 Legacy was founded to look after the widows and children of these Veterans. Legacy continues this work today not only to keep and honour the promise to look after the ‘Missus and kids’ made by returned servicemen from the First World War but also to all other Veterans from subsequent wars and conflicts. It is an ongoing commitment by Legacy to look after our Veterans families.
Legacy Club Services (LCS) is a shared services company that provides support to its six-member Legacy Clubs through governance, advocacy and financial support. The Clubs through their Legatee volunteers provide support services and assistance to the dependants of those who served their country and died or gave their health as a result of that service. Legacy is a federated body of 46 Clubs currently caring for 52,000 beneficiaries, including 1,845 children and disabled beneficiaries throughout Australia. LCS is responsible for more than 15% of those beneficiaries.
Headquartered in York Street, Sydney, LCS is an organisation with professional staff, strong governance processes and finance systems. The LCS team – the Board, members, staff and Legatees – is fully focused on continuing Legacy’s mission of helping the families of Veterans in need and making sure that they can help many more into the future.

The CEO will report to the LCS Board and will provide leadership, vision and direction to the organisation.
LCS is looking for a leader with the following:
- Outstanding leadership skills, with a demonstrated ability to develop strategy, create a vision, lead people and deliver change management initiatives
- Senior executive experience in a large and complex members-based organisation, with a track record in successful business and financial management
- A strong understanding and commitment to the values and ideals of Legacy
- A good understanding of military service and its impact on Defence families
- Experience in the military/not for profit (NFP) environment with a sound understanding of revenue streams within the NFP sector (particularly fundraising and philanthropy), and in managing/dealing with volunteers
- Strong communication skills, able to deliver the organisation’s message and engage with a broad range of stakeholders both within and outside the organisation
- Experience in embracing and improving technology to better deliver on organisational outcomes
- Commitment to the highest standards of personal conduct, good governance, transparency and accountability
