About the role

  • Based in Bankstown, Parramatta and Wollongong
  • Full Time Contract to Feb 2023

Through the Multicultural Peer Network (MPN), the Peer Facilitator will support people with a disability (PWD), their families and carers to establish outcomes focused peer networks across NSW for people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds.

The MPN creates employment for the Lived Experience Facilitators (LEFs) and will provide support and resources to people with disability, their family and carers through the LEFs and project staff through peer network meetings.

YOUR CONTRIBUTION

The Peer Facilitator will increase the skills and capacity of LEFs and Participants through the delivery of an information package which will focus on increasing confidence, empowerment to act, service navigation, increasing participation and contribution to the community by exploring volunteering and employment opportunities.

The Peer Facilitator will work with key stakeholders from disability and multicultural sectors including disability and multicultural peak organisations to support the delivery of the Multicultural Peer Network.

Responsibilities:

  • Become familiar and fluent with the content of the module provided on Peer Support Model.
  • Deliver facilitation sessions in a group setting using a facilitator training package.
  • Participate in meetings and facilitation workshops face to face, over the phone and online.
  • Contribute to developing and implementing an evaluation strategy.
  • Support the development of in-language resources as per project outcomes.
  • Community Engagement and project promotion.
  • Contribute to the recruitment and training of Lived Experience Facilitators.
  • Engage with the community to promote peer sessions using various methods and mediums.
  • Travel across Metro Sydney and Regional areas of NSW as required to establish peer networks in planned/targeted areas.
  • Provide ongoing support for Participants as per project outcomes.
  • Participate in regular Community of Practice meetings
  • Comply with privacy and confidentiality requirements as per the SSI policy.

ABOUT YOU

We require you to have confidence in presenting to small groups and the ability to liaise with participants of all communities. Experience with working towards KPIs in the community sector and the ability to self motivate is also required.

It is essential that you have a valid NSW Drivers Licence and the ability/willingness to travel regularly across the Sydney Metro area, and to other areas of NSW as well as the willingness to travel to regional areas and stay overnight as necessary.
